What is an allergy?

An allergy is an exaggerated, disproportionate reaction of the body's immune system to substances that we normally encounter - the so-called allergens.¹ It is most often caused by pollen from flowering plants or dust. It is one of the most common health problems today, and the number of people affected by these problems has been steadily increasing in recent years.² At the same time, allergy sufferers are the main group at risk of developing asthma.

Do men or women suffer more from allergies?

This "battle" is very even. Women represent 55-56% of patients, men 44-45%. Therefore, it cannot be said that one or the other group is enormously dominant. The most important influence on allergies is our lifestyle and the environment in which we move and spend time. It is estimated that up to 2025% of the population will have some form of allergy by 50.

Conjunctivitis caused by allergens - ALLERGIC CONJUNCTIVITIS

Allergic conjunctivitis is manifested by itching or burning of the eyes, swelling of the eyelids, tearing and conjunctival congestion, while the affected person has significantly red eyes. In more severe cases, the cornea can also be affected.

Allergic conjunctivitis is often accompanied by allergic rhinitis.

Allergy treatment

The basis of the treatment is the suppression of symptoms with the help of drugs supplemented with individual allergy immunotherapy. As far as possible, it is important to limit contact with the allergen!

In the treatment of allergies, it is recommended to choose antihistamines selectively blocking only H1 receptors, so that there are no unwanted effects due to the influence of other types of receptors in other tissues (e.g. known depression of the central nervous system during treatment with 1st generation antihistamines).³

Tips for pollen allergy sufferers:

• You can protect yourself from flying pollen to some extent with glasses with large lenses, gloves and a respirator.
• If possible, postpone being outside until the late afternoon, when the concentration of pollen in the air is much lower than in the morning and early morning.
• Always shower thoroughly at the end of the day and wash your hair to wash off the pollen grains. If possible, do not leave the clothes you wore during the day in the room where you will sleep.

• In the spring, wash your bedding more often, as pollen and other allergens get on your sheets during ventilation.

Who is the product intended for?

The preparation is indicated for the treatment of adults, adolescents and children from 6 years of age.

Dosage

Children from 6 years: The usual dose is one drop of LIVOSTIN® eye drops 2 times a day in both eyes. The dosage can be increased to one drop 3-4 times a day. Treatment should be continued until symptoms disappear.

Adults: The usual dose is one drop of LIVOSTIN® eye drops twice a day in both eyes. The dosage can be increased to one drop 2 to 3 times a day. Treatment should be continued until symptoms disappear.

Warning

LIVOSTIN® eye drops can be used one month after first opening bottles.

As with other ophthalmic drugs that contain benzalkonium chloride, propylene glycol and esters, during treatment with LIVOSTIN® eye suspension drops, the patient does not recommend wearing soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses, as it may cause eye irritation. Before administering the medicine, it is necessary remove the contact lenses from the eyes and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back into the eyes. LIVOSTIN® is known to cause discoloration of soft contact lenses.

Benzalkonium chloride may cause eye irritation, dry eye symptoms and may affect the tear film and corneal surface. It is used with caution in patients with dry eye syndrome and in patients with possible damage to the cornea. Patients should be monitored in case of long-term treatment.
