The Medela Calma solution is a breastfeeding alternative for mothers who want their babies to be breastfed. This solution was developed in collaboration with breastfeeding experts from the Hartmann Human Lactation Research team at the University of Western Australia (UWA).

Unlike other pacifiers, Calma dispensers do not have sizes and fulfill their role regardless of the age of the child.

As with breastfeeding, your baby may:

- suck, take breaks and breathe in a natural rhythm
- create a negative pressure for your own use with movements of the jaw and tongue
- maintain a natural sucking rhythm that supports the transition from sucking the breast to Calma and then back to the breast.
