Burns

Burns

Burns are injuries caused by the effects of high temperatures. Depending on the height of the temperature and the duration of its action, changes occur on the skin and subcutaneous tissue and their partial or complete destruction.

In addition to local damage, disorders of the regulation and function of internal organs can occur.

We distinguish 3 degrees of burns:

  • 1st degree burns - redness, swelling, pain (reversible changes),
  • 2nd degree burns - loss of the epidermis, either as blisters mostly with spontaneous healing or such damage to the dermis, when necrosis and scabs occur
  • 3rd degree burns - loss of the skin in its entire thickness and affecting the tissues lying below it, it can be a charring.

When treating burns, we use a non-adherent cover with a secondary covering with a dry gauze cover in several layers so that the cover does not seep onto the surface. Grade 2 burns heal 10 days to 3 weeks. If there are complications in the healing of the burn, treatment at a specialized workplace may be necessary.
