Only 6% of Slovak men go for urological examinations. They ignore their prostate until they properly constrict their urethra. However, it is not just prostate cancer that is a reason to visit a urologist. The most common benign urological disease in men is benign prostatic enlargement, the so-called benign prostatic hyperplasia. The causes of prostate enlargement in men in the "prostate age" are multifactorial, their role is played by aging, hormonal stimulation, immune and inflammatory mechanisms, genetic factors and race, nutrition. Benign prostate enlargement has very similar symptoms to cancer in the form of difficulty urinating. Preventive check-ups at a urologist should therefore be a matter of course after the age of 50. If prostate cancer has occurred among first-degree relatives, then the insurance company has been paying for a preventive check-up since the 40s! It is painless and can save lives!
