Cranberries contain minerals, acids and other nutrients. Thanks to such a rich composition, cranberries have so many positive effects on the human body and not only on the urinary system.

The most important substances contained in the plant:

1. Proanthocyanidins: they cause the typical bitter taste of cranberries and have a significant effect on urinary tract health. The fruit contains the most effective type, proanthocyanidin A, which is one of the bioactive substances with a strong anti-adhesion effect. Thanks to it, it acts against the deposition of bacteria on the wall of the urinary tract.

2. Acids: the most important are omega acids, namely omega-3 and omega-6 acids, pantothenic acid and folic acid. The latter is important for blood circulation and red blood cell production, is involved in metabolism and, for example, is also important for female fertility and pregnancy.

3. Vitamins: Due to the high content of various vitamins, cranberry has antioxidant and protective effects: vitamin C, vitamin E, B vitamins, vitamin K and vitamin A. Choline, lutein or betaine are also present.

4. Minerals: Cranberries are rich in minerals that have a beneficial effect on the urinary, nervous and cardiovascular systems. These are potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc, sodium, selenium, manganese and iron. Several of these substances help with the function of the heart, blood vessels, digestion, metabolism or the nervous system.

5. Other substances: pectins, fiber, fats, sugars or proteins. Bioflavonoids, which are typical plant components responsible for antioxidant effects and which also have a positive effect on blood vessels, can also be missing, as they reduce the risk of clots and atherosclerosis.

1. Urinary tract infections and inflammation: fruits contain proanthocyanidins - for bacterial infections and inflammation of the urinary tract.

2. Heart and blood vessels: positive effect on high cholesterol and high blood pressure, promote healthy blood vessels. They help regulate heart activity and prevent cardiovascular disease.

3. Oral cavity: antiseptic effects - they help, for example, in periodontitis and various infections and inflammations in the oral cavity. They prevent bacteria from settling in the oral cavity and are also a prevention against dental plaque.

4. Digestive system support:  promoting excretion, food intake and digestion. They support appetite, have a positive effect on bile secretion and stool regularity.

5. Musculoskeletal system: rheumatism, osteoporosis - support bone formation.

6. Iron deficiency anemia: they contain a lot of iron, which is well absorbed by the body and participates in the process of blood formation.

Warning: Cranberries can also cause problems in some cases. Side effects are associated with an overdose, contraindication or allergic reaction.

• They should not be used in people with severe liver or kidney problems

• Excessive use can cause stomach irritation, diarrhea or nausea

• in extreme cases, on the basis of long-term use, ie more than 2 or 3 months in a row, it can also lead to the formation of kidney stones
