The medicine contains the active substance iodinated povidone. Iodinated povidone is a complex of iodine and a polymer that releases iodine for a period of time after use. Elemental (pure) iodine is a highly effective germicidal substance (it quickly kills all bacteria, viruses, fungi and also some protozoa). Vaginal suppositories (for use in the vagina) are used to treat acute and chronic vaginal (vaginal) infections caused by:

• bacteria
• Gardnerella vaginalis (non-specific infections)
• bacteria and fungi at the same time (mixed infections)
• fungi (fungal infections)
• protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis.
