Benfogamma 50

The medicine is a vitamin preparation that contains vitamin B₁ in the form of benphothiamine. Compared to the classical form, due to its solubility in fats, it is significantly better absorbed, is better available in the body and is also better used. Unlike thiamine, it does not cause constipation or unpleasant body odor. It is more resistant to degradation. It is essential for the proper functioning of nerve cells. Vitamin B deficiency₁ can lead to polyneuropathy.

Vitamin B deficiency₁ occurs in:

• post
• unilateral nutrition e.g. in alcoholics with subsequent severe health consequences such as heart muscle damage (alcoholic cardiomyopathy), degenerative brain diseases (Wernicke's encephalopathy), memory disorders (Korsakov's syndrome)
• disorder of nutrient absorption in the small intestine (malabsorption)
• long-term artificial nutrition (parenteral nutrition)
• increased need for vitamin B1
• artificial kidney (hemodialysis)
