MUTAFLOR

MUTAFLOR belongs to a group of medicines called antidiarrheals. It contains dry biomass of viable bacteria Escherichia coli strain Nissle 1917. Escherichia coli belongs to the normal intestinal flora of man. Due to its oxygen consumption, the special Nissle 1917 strain has a significant ability to create a suitable environment for most intestinal bacteria. It thus acts against pathogenic (disease-causing) microbes, and thus supports the barrier function of the physiological intestinal flora against the penetration of foreign germs. The metabolic products of Escherichia coli are vital sources of energy for the cells of the intestinal mucosa.

MUTAFLOR is used to treat ulcerative colitis (ulcerative inflammation of the colon) in the phase of temporary remission of the symptoms of the disease. It is also used to treat chronic (long-term) constipation.
